[Alumni-chat] I miss the old ANTIOCHIAN newspaper tabloid format with hun...

Here's my $.02 on the subject: The alumni association for my high school
(the American International School of New Delhi) used to send out a printed
newsletter on a quarterly basis. Now they maintain a website that contains
articles, class news, obits, messages, (lists of those who have donated in
the current year), etc. It is updated on a regular (typically weekly) basis
by people who volunteer to do the work. I think we pay less than $100 a
year for the site. One of the things that is nice about it is that, because
it's online, one can go back through archives and see things that one might
have missed (because of moving, whatever).

Anyway, there you go.

Actually this was discussed in the early 90's when I was on Alumni Board.
It simply was too expensive, particularly after postal rates increased. It

carried no advertising, and was in no way a subscription journal, and
particularly after so many alumni cut back on donations largely as a result
of the
Antioch Independence Fund -- ending the Antiochian was the response.

Renewing it, I suspect, would of necessity require that it become
electronic
so as to get around the costs of postage. At the same time, the features
so
many valued -- the class updates, and yes the obits, need to be kept up.
Over many years I was distrubed by the Public Relations Happy Talk that
dominated the College News, and while I don't think it the place to put the
details
of institutional spats, it never was reflective.
