  I just learned from an Antioch alumnus friend living the YS Ohio area that Miriam Dickenson, Antioch College Registrar Emerita, is still living and is almost 100 years old!  Her "nickname" was "Ma Dick" and she sometimes signed informal letters to students who wrote her with that "title" which I think she enjoyed!
   
  Ma Dick almost 100? WOW!  SHE was MY "Dean" when I entered Antioch in 1962!  She always was the Dean for newly entered transfer students back then.
  
She'd invite us to her "over the garage" apt. packed (wall to wall) with dectective novels she loved, read, and reviewed for THE ANTIOCH REVIEW very skillfully!  She also served the most delicious chocolate brownies and her trick was to use GIANT hunks of pecan nuts in the brownies....she wouldn't make the hunks small, sooooooooo....the brownies were always much bigger than average...also, she seemed to have used double portions of actual (probably Baker's brand) chocolate rather than the usual cake/ dough ingrediants for her brownies.
  
After meetings she'd hold at her great off-campus "pad," the guys on my hall (Caldwell Hall in Mills Dorm) would talk about those brownies for days!
   
  Ma Dick (aka "Miriam Dickenson") was a graduate of Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio on the far side of the state, right next to West Virginis (Parkersbury WVa was across the bridge from Marietta College) and the gentry from Ohio traditionally sent kids to Marietta before going into the family banking biz in places like Columbus and Cleveland....low profile, very good school!
   
  Ma Dick was (no doubt still is) one of the native Ohio types who staffed Antioch for decades, common sense people much smarter and more creative than prejudiced (agains Mid-Westerners!) east coast types like my ever gave them credit for.  J. D. Dawson was another "hokey" Ohio type who ran Antioch for decades....always had a small town Ohio hokey haircut and used Ohio slang phrases while explaining to Antiochians how to survive the messes kids would confront him (and Ma Dick!) with!
   
  I hope Ma Dick lives ANOTHER 100 years, and the key may be to send her gread brownies with big Pecan nut hunks and double chocolate portions!  Ma Dick (Miriam Dickenson, Antioch College Registrar Emerita) is really one of the saints of 20th Century Antioch College.
  
Olympia Brown, Antioch Class of 1859, Antioch's most famous 19th century feminist would have been proud of Ma Dick!  Two great Antioch ladies!
