Stephen:

It amazes me how much weight the fireworks between Dixon and Sparks seems to
be given as we attempt to learn from our mistakes and come up with a formula
which "saves" Antioch College. I was around, and my wife spent a short
stint in the office at Old Main working for Ev Wilson when he was actively
leading the Faculty Senate, before Sparks. There were "concerns" with
Dixon's expansion ideas even before some of the initial grant applications
were submitted, but. Antioch always needed money, even back then, and what
I now call the 'development mentality' which leads to so much that is
unsustainable, prevailed.

Recent headline noted in passing, U. S. Grain Reserves at a 60-year low!
Also, Michigan state legislature taking a look at forcing a reduction in the
endowment now held by the University of Michigan. Can you believe it, U. of
M. total endowment now valued at 7.2 B and it has more than doubled in just
the past 5 years?
