This event is free and open to all. Nonstop Liberal Arts Institute, founded by the former faculty of Antioch College, offers open-source post-secondary educational experience for learners dedicated to innovation, social responsibility and community involvement, both locally and globally. Pursued as an alternative door into higher education or as a means of continuing life-learning interests, Nonstop provides participants with an exciting program of courses, study groups and workshops. The Institute will also host Nonstop Presents!, a semester-long festival of public lectures, films, exhibitions and performances The Nonstop Liberal Arts Institute (Nonstop) and Nonstop Antioch (the movement to organize former faculty, staff, students and alumni of Antioch College to keep its soul alive and operating in Yellow Springs), which works closely with Nonstop, are not affiliated with or sponsored by Antioch University or any of the Antioch University campuses or related organizations. Although Nonstop courses are not currently accredited, their structures and requirements adhere to national crediting standards. Students will maintain Learning Portfolios documenting each course and providing a future opportunity to petition accredited institutions to accept Nonstop Faculty-evaluated course work as transfer credit. The Institute will offer a wide range of classes in many different disciplines, including anthropology, art, chemistry, communications, dance, journalism, philosophy, theater, political science, and writing. Courses and special events will be scheduled throughout the week with some offerings in the evenings and on Saturdays. At the Open House attendees will be able to interact with faculty one-on-one and receive copies of the course syllabi. There will also be tables set up for people to pre-register for classes, donate to Nonstop Antioch, offer housing or jobs for students, and share expertise. The alumni group will name other pro tem board members soon, according to alumni association President Nancy Crow this week, and hopes to have a board in place if the alumni and university trustees reach an agreement on making Antioch College independent of the university. That agreement has not yet been reached, but progress is being made, Crow said. Editorial: Nonstop deserves our support http://www.ysnews.com/editorial/index.html The Nonstop Liberal Arts Institute is a deeply committed group of former Antioch College faculty and students who aim, now that the campus is closed, to carry on Antioch?s traditions and values in village churches, coffee shops and parks. This gutsy and spirited effort is good for the village, and good for higher education in America, with its scrappy insistence that true education has little to do with state-of-the-art facilities, and everything to do with people who love teaching and learning From matt at baya.net Mon Aug 25 14:23:36 2008 From: matt at baya.net (Matthew Baya) Date: Mon Aug 25 14:23:41 2008 Subject: [Alumni-chat] Fwd: request for help from an almuni References: Message-ID: <24C09E10-0AD3-411E-A64B-C59B8CC204B2@baya.net> Forwarded by request Begin forwarded message: > From: "Niko Kowell" > Date: August 25, 2008 2:02:48 PM EDT > To: acan@saveantioch.org, organizers@antiochians.org, saveantioch@lists.antiochians.org > Subject: [Organizers] request for help from an almuni > > Hello, > > My name is niko kowell. I was Assistant Community Manager for Antioch's Community Govt. during Winter Quarter 1965 and arranged from Dave Van Ronk to give a one man concert in Kelly Hall, Main Building at Antioch during Feb. 1965. His wife, Terri Thal Van Ronk, was also his manager, and asked me to consider booking The Holy Model Rounders, which she also managed and booked, then just beginning as a group. I had never heard of them...then! Later I got albums they did and loved their music. The music of those times really "brings it all back home," and people of those times (me and the rest of the 1960's Cast Of Thousands attending "Golden Age Antioch College Ohio) should collect LP phono albums (and CD copies if LP records can't be got, or LP record players with record changers can't be got) the great musicians of the 1960's created for us. That was the music of our lives, and I play it daily in my Shrewsbury PA USA (30 miles north of Baltimore MD USA...40 miles south of Harrisburg PA USA) sitting room. I was lucky enough to obtain a terrific Magnavox (brand) LP Console Record Player with a working record changer (hard to get anywhere in 2008), and put stacks of records I got over the years from Good Will Second Hand Stores, Yard Sales, E-Bay, etc. My 1950's - 1970's nostalgi music collection presently includes 80 different artists, some very well represented (I have 10 different Peter, Paul, and Mary albums!). Get and play that music 60's Antiochian's (and fellow travellers and sympathizers). It'll take you all back to good times......40 years ago and more!
