Hi from Yazz (David Roger) Allen (YazzAllen at Yahoo.Com)!
Sorry I screwed up the founding date of Antioch, which is/was (of course) 1852...not 1953 as I wrongly typed.
When I was studying mathematics (should have been a math major, and regret not choosing to do that) with Dr. Sokolowski at Antioch College in the 1960's, he's wisedly explain that sometimes, "getting the right answer exactly" isn't as important as getting "the larger idea being expressed."
Tom Lehrer made fun of "New Math" in the 1960's with his "New Math" song and math students who don't care about "getting the right answer" because (math students explain) "the idea is the important thing."
But.........the idea really IS the important thing.
I was typing pretty fast, didn't proof read what I sent....and had glass of wine for lunch, and was feeling jolly when I sent that.
But....I KNOW 1852 is the founder date for Antioch College.
Yazz D. Atlas really IS a saint, and when the history of Antioch College is written a hundred years from now, information about what happened during the time following the 1998 foundeibng of WWW.AntiochSuck.Com (later changed to WWW.AntiRecord.Org ....see the "Mission Statement" Yazz Atlas provides on the home page of the site, presently [Sept. 2007] about the history of the site, his motives and reasonss for starting and continueing it, etc.....good stuff]).
Saints get rocks thrown at them, all the more so at Antioch where rock throwing is such a tradition.
He's tough, intelligent fellow, and runs a great website all should visit and write for. Much easier to use his site than the WWW.Antiochians.Org site, regardless of how well intended the latter is.
Ease of use is a big issue, and the easiest of all sites devoted to Antioch College anywhere is.... WWW.AntiRecord.Org.
It's really a model for all to see and marvel at.
When time passes, all the wisdom and history put into the Antioch College official Alumni chatline will disappear. None of what appears is shared with the (very important) wider public, or available to the wider public.
That is not true with the WWW.AntiRecord.Org site. It serves all Antiochians and the wider community in different ways than other sites, and should be given "respect," to use a hackneyed and overused term.
Now for some MORE Antiochiana, FYI:
On July 3, 1912, Elbert Hubbard (then a very widely read and respected commentator on the American cultural scene), stated that "Antioch College Ohio was to be the Harvard College (Mass. USA) of the West...only it was to be an IMPROVED Harvard, a Harvard with all the world's flummery omitted...." (from the Antioch College mid-year calendar of 1975).
Best wishes always,
Yazz (David Roger) Allen '66 (YazzAllen at Yahoo.Com)
