I know how you feel. From the vantage of almost 60 I see the dreams of youth
in ashes. But really it’s always been a 50-50 proposition. The ying and the
yang. Its possible that a more humanistic regime will arise here in our,
your lifetimes. Sometimes the striving is as important as the result.

This is all I can surmise, unfortunately. I think we can probably do better
here. Adopting turn-key, buzz-word laden, techno-jargon babbling,
profit-driven technology curriculum is not the way forward, however.

want to jump in here and say, without much qualification since i'm short on
time - that the reason many X+ers have given up on work is because there
simply is very little meaningful work left. perhaps at all, but almost
certainly in ratio to the # of seekers hitting the market. Find me a job
that does not require me to contribute in some way to the oppression of this
planet and the lifeforms found upon it by way of stealing, lying, cheating,
segmenting & fragmenting my personality, and/or indirectly or directly
murdering my fellow human beings and I'll gladly grab a mop and be the first
in line to sign up for bathroom cleaning duties. or i'll code. or whatever.
task is unimportant, given that it supplies the basics - that is it's own
debate that I'll refrain from addressing here, other then to note that the
demise of western power is not even a matter up for debate among most of my
peers, which includes the fact that prices at retail keep going up and up
while our wages increase at a snails pace. It's obvious, it is happening -
whether it is a trend or not seems not worth the energy discussing, in the
same way getting a job or not seems not worth the energy applying &
interviewing for. And then, when we do try - it's back to Kentucky Fried
Satan again. Or Satanbucks. Even the unretail, like MicroSatan for example.
No difference there either. They are all just full of Satan. When in Rome,
fall as the romans do, shall we? Sorry for the doom & gloom - not meant to
be anything but realistic. I tried to offset it with the over-the-top bursts
of luciferiffic relief but I fear I've failed, even so. A sad day indeed
when even the devil himself can't get a smile out of it.

Course, this is no different then it was 30 years ago, or 60 even. but it
exists now in a more advanced state, perhaps.
