Sistersara, I'm trying to stay out of these discussions but you've hit a hot button in me. Quotas may have been legally abolished in the 1960's but there continued to be a very strong quota system which worked to limit we Jews to many institutions of higher learning... they developed a discretionary admissions process ... purportedly to gain more diversity.
Thus we have a relative of mine, who in the 1970's earned a perfect 800 score on not just both of his SAT's, but three perfect 800 scores on his Achievement tests (one in Russian)... so very rare ... and had so many other attributes which made him a great college candidate ...who was denied admission to some of the top name schools. For us, it was hard to swallow.
I'm not saying a diverse student body is not important, but there are also times when you have outright racism. I recommend you read Chutzpah by Alan Dershowitz. I grew up sometimes feeling I am a guest in my own country of citizenship.
