Hi from Yazz (David) Allen '66 (YazzAllen at Yahoo.Com)!
The Antioch University Board Of Trustees failed to back down from the outrageous and morally wrong closedown announcement it made last June 12, 2007, which announcement convulsed the entire community of Antioch alumni and worldwide friends of Antioch College undergraduate residential program in Ohio.
Absolutely no-one except George Will types supported or support the closedown decision. Not a single Antioch College Alumni Board member has publically supported the closedown decision.
The contact between the AU BOT and those who met with it during past days in Ohio have NOT been about "collaboration." The contact has been about pleading with the Trustees to reverse the idiotic and incredibly senseless and destructive decision to closedown Antioch College next July 2008 so that the damage already done by that decision might be repaired as soon as possible. The entering Freshman class at Antioch College Ohio starting Antioch in Fall 2008 must be recruited. The national media must be alerted Antioch is OK, again.
This is NOT a time for knit-picking or hand-wringing, anguished ammouncements that "there just wasn't enough time" to.........do the right rhing. CHANGE the closedown decision, and get on with repairing the damage done by that decision.
Even if the AU BOT indeed DOES reverse the closedown decision (no evidence that will happen so far), Antioch College and it's worldwide community of 14,000 plus living alumni worldwide will STILL be stuck with the AU Trustees and their obvious indecision, failure of leadership, and incompetence.
It's like having a leader who must walk a tightrope, but has a known case of epilepsy. Nervous, at the least, to keep in mind that these guys (and women) of the AU BOT are "in the driver's seat."
Will the AU BOT get on with it's job? Allowing Antioch College, Ohio to survive!
I'm still not hopeful about the outcome we all face....not with this bunch (the current AU BOT) running things.
Best,
Yazz (David) Allen (YazzAllen at Yahoo.Com)
