IN the 60s, when enrollment was bursting the campus at the seams (we were
finally allowed to live off campus--there were about 1500 registered on one
div at one point, as I recall, and new dorms were being built, or had just
been built) the endowment was said to be the problem.  Seems to be whatever
is handy.
