This response doesn't have details on the meeting itself;
however in regards to where were are today vs. where we were on
sunday, functionally, the College is still in the same boat. The
University Administration refuses to allow the College to admit
or recruit, citing that its either due to OBR or a decision of
the Trustees. The Chancellor has made comments that tie together
OBR and the next date scheduled for the transfer of funds (dec
15th). She seemed to indicate that the OBR wouldn't approve
extending until after seeing if the AB meets the Dec 15th
deadline, though I think its more likely that the University
Admin refuses to go to the OBR until after the Dec 15th transfer
of funds. IF OBR really is an issue.
On the flip side, the Trustee's resolution instructed the
Chancellor to work with the other bodies to come up with the
3-year "OBR" plan. She's made one appearance in Adcil since
then, and provided no substantial operations or budgetary
information to Adcil as far as I'm aware.
However, Bloch has delegated creation of 'the plan' to
subcommittees of Adcil, under the direction of a soon-to-be
appointed Dean of Faculty. Both Bloch and the Chancellor
severely criticized the business plan done by the Alumni Board.
What was presented during the Adcil meeting last week was that
the subcommittees were essentially going to recreate the wheel
with a new short term 'plan' for operations for 08-09. Their
timeframe is coming up with something by the beginning of
January.
As far as I understand it the main thrust of the Donors is to
get the independent board with sufficient powers, which the
Trustees haven't yet formally committed to. A commonly held
belief is that an independent board will take over sufficient
responsibilities such that the University can then be justified
in allowing admissions of mostly transfer students to happen.
Sadly, from what I've heard, my impression is that even with a
semi-independent board with sufficient powers we're still going
to be forced to put off recruitment until it is "financially
feasible", i.e. until the AB satisfies all transfer of funds
agreements for 2007-2008. This is essentially the plan that the
Chancellor presented two weeks ago, and I've not heard any
sufficiently grounded information to change my opinion on that.
