This is Duffy here ..just left from a preliminary meeting with three
committees.. Hey folks....

1.) Budget committee (my committee)

2.) Campus services and physical plant

3.) Academic program and resources review committee

As a four year member of the budget committee I asked Andrzej the lead
question for any campus budget committee..knowing that the major part of
any budget is tuition received after
discounting..I asked Andrzej if and when we could start recruiting 1st
years. His answer was something you might get from Tony Snow. A snow job?

Sounds like the chicken and egg routine to me. The University entity
still has fears that if we bite off more than we can chew they will be
responsible for any budget holes that we create
and are unwilling (or maybe unable) to plug those holes. Somehow in
their minds it is more feasible at this point to recruit 3rd and fourth
years and not lst years. 2nd years kinda vague there.

and that once we either hit the next couple of benchmarks (from alumni
donors) and have also our own BOT with deep pockets then that should
change.

So before we can recuitment 130 chickens we need a few million eggs. or
is that vice-voisa

Personally..I feel any first year would get quite a ride here and on
co-op.....so it is just working with the other entity's fidicuiary fear
factor.....

The new committees should start work in" earnest" next week after a New
Academic Dean has been selected. We will reporting to that person.

and btw, folks, we have had a great loss here this week..Elaine Comegys
passed away in her sleep on Thanksgiving early in the AM...with a book
open in her arms....
She had been a Dean of Student and C0-op advisor for a couple of
generations of Antiochians. She was a good friend and a great human..you
could talk to her
about the worst of things and she still could get you to laugh and see the
ridiculous things even in the worst moments. I kept trying to get her
out of retirement mode.

so many great folks here....and she was one of em.
