[Alumni-chat] Possible Impact Of Barrie Grenell Message On Trustees...Maybe Not Good!

  Hi from Yazz (David) Allen '66 (Yahoo.Com)!
   
  Here's a fragment of a private email message I sent to a fellow Antioch College alumnus who ased me what's going on, what the impact of the Barrie Grenell (SF Antioch College Alumni group leader) could have on the present situation.
   
  I share it here with people reading this alumni chatline.  My words are not optimistic, sadly...........

  "The noise and sound and fury now going on could lead quickly to a total breakdown between alumni and AU BOT and just set the AU BOT on a track going back to "Plan A," which was.....close down the college next July as announced last June.  Then sell it off, as denied, but certainly on the drawing board, and give the money to the trendy non-residential campuses elsewhere, and McGregor.
   
  "The AU BOT are slimeballs....the only way to deal with them is fight 'em head on and win.  That could have been done (long shot, but possible) when the momentum of the alumni outrage last June was still high, and resources still untapped and not drained off.
   
  "$18 million raised for lawyers taking the AU BOT to court and winning (kicking the BOT out) would have been a far better investment that what happened..."co-operating" with the lie that money is the problem and only money raising will solve things. 
   
  "The only thing that would turn it around would another Arthur Morgan, but he got in ONLY because the Trustees (fellow trustees....he started out as a rich guy from Dayton OH appointed to the Trustee board due to his huge money) were willing to do what he asked...including resign and let him appoint his own guys (no girls back then).
   
  "The present trustees are "entrepreneurs," I'm sure, esp. the Chairman.  He's a wheeler dealer not about to quit or turn over his position as head general in a war he has a good chance of winning to somebody else.  He's NOT looking for a "Saviour" or replacement for himself.
   
  "They see the shell games of "Financial Exigency" and putting money into the other campuses, etc. as wonderful...."
