May I make an  observation relating to "development," i.e. fundraising, 
as it relates to alumni giving?  Antioch College never had a Greek 
system; never had organized sports, or organized anything else.  (Among 
the reasons that I chose the school!)  However, these things foster a 
sense of "family" among alumni that can be tapped into when it comes to 
raising money.  This lack of organization meant that the development 
office (was there one?) was not prepared to actively seek out alumni for 
donations.  (I do remember getting occasional letters asking for 
donations, but no follow up.)  In addition to the excellent suggestions 
for cultivating alumni, has anyone researched how Bard, Oberlin or Reed 
manages their development?
