No more co-op and no mention of the arts or
communications/film/video/journalism, no philosophy...and on and on. Rural
residential undergraduate colleges have a tough road in terms of marketing
themselves and many have fallen off the map. Co-op offered students an
avenue out of Yellow Springs and each time they returned they brought a
piece of their experience to the community and the classroom. Students
aren't going to pay big bucks to be stuck in a corn field for 4 years. Yes,
co-op might need to be reconfigured but the co-op communities, which
had evolved through the Renewal Plan and were being staffed entirely
by alumni, were just starting to take shape and had some potential. Does
this administration think Antioch College alumni will donate to this
effort? And if not, where in the world will they get funds for this Antioch
Lite?
