[Alumni-chat] 501 c3 status and sponsorship information

Tax-exempt status isn't essential to me, either, though it would be nice.
What *does* make a difference to me is the ability to get matching funds
through my spouse's employer. I could very well be wrong, but I believe that
in order to qualify as a charitable donation, and therefore be matched by
the employer, the funds need to go to an organization with 501 c3 status.
I'm giving money either way, but I'd just as soon be able to double the
gift.

Ilse,

While this would matter to me, tax-exempt status wouldn't be essential, nor
would it limit my giving. It would be a nice extra, but I can give without
it. Unfortunately, I can't give much, at least this year--am trying to
restructure my commitments to be able to do more come the Fall.

How many donors want, need, expect this donation to be tax deductible and
wouldn't donate otherwise? Personally my income is such that I usually only
take the standard deduction.
