As someone who recently took an Alvin dive at the East Pacific Rise hydrothermal sites I must tell you that it doesn’t work that way. Woods Hole scientists don't have access to the submarines without outside funding. The R/V Atlantis costs 50,000 per day whether outfitted with DSV Alvin or ROV Jason. If Antioch could pay 50,000 a day they could take a cruise with their students and professors to dive anywhere in the world they might want provided a sound scientific justifiication. On the plus side, my 1990's Antioch education made it possible for me to get into graduate school studying marine biology and to go on a cruise to the EPR hydrothermal vents and take an Alvin dive.
