Therefore, I'm told, parking in all lots on campus and in the campus garage is free and open to all. Though Parents Weekend is a busy time, the official schedule of events will be winding down by midday Sunday, so it should be a particularly convenient time to visit the Tufts campus. See you then! It was both inspiring and informative. We didn't take formal minutes, but here are notes about the afternoon. Read on for information about our next meeting, scheduled for November 14. We heard from Dr. Steve Chase, the founder and director of Antioch New England's Environmental Advocacy and Organizing Program on "Educating Effective Activists." The EAOP offers the only U.S. graduate training for public interest advocates and grassroots organizers focused on ecological sustainability, social justice, and democratic control of corporations. To demonstrate some fundamental principles of organizing of all kinds, Steve led us in a participatory exercise: He challenged us to flip over a quilt we were standing on, first collectively and then with opposition -- you had to be there. For more information on his program, go to www.antiochne.edu/es/eao/. We also heard from Dr. David Caruso, president of Antioch New England and a member of the University Leadership Council, about ANE's programs and the school's role in the university system. Caruso, together with University Trustee Jack Merselis and College Alumni Board member Michael Brower, also took questions about the crisis at the College and the upcoming Board of Trustees meeting in Yellow Springs intended to address it. Merselis in particular talked about what will be necessary to ensure the College's future and declared himself to be "cautiously optimistic" about the Alumni Board's proposals for how to proceed. He also offered to return to talk with us after the October 25 Trustees' meeting. Senior Major Gifts Officer Wendy Ernst, from the College, spoke briefly as well: Alums considering donating to the College should bear in mind that pledges received before the Trustees' meeting will have much more power to help keep the College open than later pledges. Wendy and Michael Brower distributed College Revival Fund pledge forms to those requesting them, which a large majority of participants did. Visit www.antiochians.org to print out a pledge form or for more information. We then moved to a social hour with truly delicious snacks (thanks, Karen Scheaffer!). The next greater Boston Antioch College alumni meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m., at my house, 320 Dudley St., Brookline -- directions on request. By popular demand, we will again start with a potluck supper: Bring a dish that will serve 4 to 6 people. The focus of the meeting will be to decide on our response to the outcome of the October 25 Trustees meeting -- how we can best help Antioch College now. RSVP to me by e-mail or phone: 617-232-5239. Best, Barbara
